Guild Charter

Cthulhu is a semi-hardcore PvE raiding guild on Eonar EU, horde side. We raid with a hardcore attitude, but due to responsibilities to work, family and other commitments, we raid 'only' 4 days a week. Below you will find our rules and management in terms of guild mechanics. By joining Cthulhu, you agree with the below mentioned rules and regulations.

Guild Ranks

Currently the ranks in Cthulhu are:
  • Heresiarch (GM)
  • Deep One (Officer)
  • Zealot (Raider)
  • Cultist (Raider Alt)
  • Heretic (Social)
  • Neophyte (Trialist)
The officers function as the management of Cthulhu. If any member (of any rank) has questions or remarks about certain aspects of their performance, guild rules and mechanics, they can turn to said officers for answers and/or advice. For global information and simple questions as for example Vent information or raiding calendar, all members should always use the guild information in-game and the forums on this website as a first pool of information.

The officers of Cthulhu are:
Guild Master: Ribbed
Officers: Guntar, Vytorin and Gurthodd

Guild Communications

Cthulhu is an international guild and as such we have members from all over the world. To maintain a proper use of communication in the guild, the main language for communication is English. Any other use of non-English languages should be restricted to whispers or other private channels.

All players are expected to behave in a mature and proper way. This includes communication in the guild and between members, but also extends outside the guild. We believe everyone wearing our guild tag is directly an ambassador of the guild and should act accordingly. Not adhering to these simple rules can result in warnings and finally in removal from the guild. Non-appropriate behaviour includes - but is not limited to :
- arguing in a public channel;
- name-calling and cursing;
- discrimination, sexism or other forms of demeaning remarks;
- elitism or other arrogant behaviour;
- excessive forms of internet language often referred to as 'leetspeak'.

It goes without saying that Cthulhu adheres further to the general conduct as placed by Blizzard Entertainment.

Any member of Cthulhu is also expected to actively read the guild website and its forums. Actively posting and interacting is encouraged, but not mandatory. Most, if not all, guild announcements and changes will be announced via the guilds website and its forums. Not reading these can result in not knowing changes and regulations within the guild. The officers of Cthulhu will assume all of it's members to be active readers of the guild communications and thus should not be obliged to answer simple questions that can be found on the forums.

Furthermore, all members are expected to understand they are a part of the guild and it's functionality. It is not the job of the officers to make anyone's gaming experience interesting or fun in any way. The guild and the fun experienced within the guild is based on the input of the members of Cthulhu.

Raiding with Cthulhu

When raiding with Cthulhu, we expect our members and trialists to raid with us on their mains and to not have alts in other raiding guilds without our explicit knowledge and go ahead. Not mentioning being in another guild and raiding with them, will give us the impression you are in Cthulhu for other reasons and will be frowned upon.

When raiding with Cthulhu, any member or trialist is required to have to following addons installed (and keep them updated) for any of our raids:
  • Ventrillo
  • Omen Threat Meter
  • Ora2
  • Big Wigs
Not having one of the above mentioned addons can result in direct removal from the raid.

Our raiding times are from 20.00 till 23.30 server time (to possibly 0.00 if getting close to a kill and people can stay). All members listed on the final raid-list for that raid are expected to be online and ready to raid between 19.30 and 20.00. Everyone should be IN the instance at exactly 20.00 with full preparation and buffs. People who are late or not show up will be replaced and run the risk of being demoted or even removed from the guild.

To participate in one of the raids of Cthulhu, a member has to sign up for that raid at least a day before the day of the actual raid. This is done via the Cthulhu Raiding Calendar. Once a member signs up and has not given any sign of cancellation at least a day before hand, the officers will assume that member to be available for that raid and may select that member for the final raid-list. Whether benched or on the final list, everyone that signed up is expected to log on at the invitational times to form the raid. Not showing up is something we frown upon very heavily and may lead to demotion or removal.

Cthulhu's raid-lists are made based on the encounters the guild will face. Thus the best classes and folks to fit the roles and raid-spots as well as provide the best synergy are taken. Although we do try to shoot for an average level of fairness, the main goal for the guild is to progress and thus we will mostly focus on the best team for the task at hand. Comments or general complaints about raid-selections should never be discussed in general channels, but always with the appropriate officers. It is highly recommended to show the best of your raiding in every raid as it may lead to more selection. Our selections are never based on personal preference and thus there are also no 'safe' spots. We select the best of what we have, thus a healthy competition for raid-spots is created.

Cthulhu raids on the following days:
Wednesday: 20.00 till 23.30
Thursday: 20.00 till 23.30
Sunday: 20.00 till 23.30
Monday: 20.00 till 23.30

The above mentioned dates are for 25 man raiding only. The other days of the week are usually filled with either 10 man raids or heroics and other activities.

When raiding, all raid-members are expected to having working use of the above mentioned addons and to listen to the directions of raid-leaders. Although there is always room for suggestions, one should understand that raidleading is done by the raid-leaders only. So called backseat raid-leading will not be tolerated. Tactical discussions can be held on the forums, not during the raid, especially not during the fight itself. Once a raid starts, all members are expected to be focused and prepared. This means being prepared in terms of buffs/arrows/mats/oils/food/drink/pots etc but also in real life. Make sure you visit the toilet beforehand and have drinks and munchables close by if needed. If a raid starts it is the intend to get as far as possible, with the fewest breaks possible. For that reason we have general afk breaks in which everyone can go afk. Going afk in the middle of a raid is not wanted, as you're practically wasting everyone's time. Doing so can force us to replace you.

If needed, Cthulhu may ask members to respec or use their offspecs before or in the middle of a raid to ensure higher chances of killing certain bosses. Such respecs will of course be paid for from the gbank when needed.

Loot Distribution

The raiding roster consists of people who have either 100% or close to 100% attendance. As such we have very little reason to rotate or bench people. This also means that loot dropped usually goes to the people that need it and worked for it. As such we do not use any DKP system, but simply rolls. This means luck has some factor in it as well as generosity towards your guildmates in passing on items which are a sidegrade to you and upgrade to them.

Talent Builds and minmaxing

Although Cthulhu does not have the practice of forcing certain talent builds on people, we do ask you to try and get the maximum out of your character. Most of the time this means that the 'standard' PvE build is preferred over any PvP ones. The same can be said for enchants, item enhancement, gems and glyphs. Please make sure you are functioning at the top of what is possible for your class so that you can benefit the raid the most. This means healers/dps/tanks should come to a raid with the best possible gear they have and the best possible spec they can get. Furthermore, Raid-leaders can ask you to respec for a certain fight, if this would benefit the fight and the raid in general.

Hybrid classes are encouraged to get as much gear for their offspecs as possible. The main strength of a hybird lies in being able to change roles when needed and having the options to do so will increase your chances of getting raid-spots very much.

Breaks and Holidays

We are very aware that our members have different obligations to attend and that work, family, friends or other parts of your life may take preference at certain times, which may lead to extended breaks from the game. There is always room for people to take breaks or go on holidays without this affecting membership in Cthulhu. We do ask you to notify the officers personally or by posting in the AFK thread on the forums. Should a player not mention such a break or holiday and mysteriously vanish, the officers will assume that player no longer wishes to be part of the guild and remove that player.

New members

New members that find their applications accepted, go through a trial period of varying length (usually around 1 month though). During this period the officers and Raid-leaders will keep a close eye on the performance, knowledge and skill a member display during our raids and in general. After this period a final decision will be made concerning extending the membership. Also, the applicant will be able to access the guildbank and make more use of the guilds resources.

We can not stress how important it is to leave a very positive impression during a trial. No-shows during a trial are reason enough for an instant removal from the guild.
